To my sons on your 3rd birthdays…

The first moments I learned about your heartbeats within me, I felt both very blessed and protective. I will never forget the moment I found out that you chose me as your mother. It was a roller coaster of a day, and having gone through that, I wonder what I did in my life up until that point to deserve you amazing little humans.

Fast forward to today, you both have made it clear that you are very different from each other. Apart from that, you both are generous, strong-willed, curious, creative, chatty, off-the-wall (sometimes!), and extremely passionate about whatever interests you. You ignite a certain energy amongst your peers, that making friends is never a challenge. You both are also very caring and empathetic, showing general concern whenever someone is upset, then trying to better the situation. It’s no surprise that you both like to be active, jumping and running around, since you both feed off each others’ vibes. There’s hardly a lazy day with you both, which is a blessing in disguise in keeping me active. You’re slowly developing your “inside voice”. I will not always sugarcoat, but I hope you know that everyday won’t be perfect, that I will not always have the energy to keep up with you, and that I have to use the “mommy voice” to get your attention, be short with you which would unintentionally make you cry.  I don’t mean for that to happen, and I’m sorry whenever it does. I love that you understand my “me time”, and that I need it to regroup and function better as I “fill my own cup” and not always run on empty.

I hope that by the time you are able to read this (or even show any interest in reading this entire blog webspace!), that we still have an amazing relationship as a family, still say I love you to each other and say goodnight to each other. I get very bittersweet that you’re growing and becoming more independent as each day passes, but I love that even at 3, you still let me give you cuddles and don’t resist.

You boys are everything. I will always root for you.

Fun Facts:

• Just like your mommy, you like to remember random things that happened some time ago, and bring it up during unrelated situations haha
• You both are still obsessed with anything dinosaurs
• Rocky is still the healthier eater and Axl still the beige food fiend
• One of you finally decided to stop wearing diapers and the other is slowly getting there (I’m not saying who because it’s not a competition haha)
• Paw Patrol came back into your life after a year
• You’re starting to like Marvel Characters like Captain America, Iron Man,  Hulk and Spiderman
• You still like us to play the Sharp Tooth scenes in The Land Before Time, and fast forward everything else. In Jurassic World, you only prefer to watch the last 10 minutes of the movie where the dinosaurs battle the Indominus Rex.
• Axl enjoys walking while Rocky would rather bike on his tricycle
• You offer to help even when I don’t ask. Chores are getting easier
• You finally got comfortable with swimming and stopped crying after 6 classes
• You are very inquisitive whenever we go out and explore new places
• You are starting to keep your wits about you when we are in public places
• Your favourite toys at the moment are Legos, Dinotrux, Dinosaurs (obviously), your kitchen and bbq play sets
• You love brushing your teeth ever since I got you the spin brush.
• You still despise flossing, but I have to remind you that it’s important if you still want to eat candy
• You know how to ask for things clearly
• Your good manners are slowly developing without having me remind you to say please and thank you
• Sometimes, in the middle of the night, one of you would crawl into mommy and daddy’s bed, wedge yourself in between us to form an “H”. Sometimes I’m lucky to get your top end and daddy unfortunately gets your bottom end hehe. And other times like this morning, both of you wedged yourselves between us. Love the snuggles.
